Hadith of Imam Ali Art Print
Hadith of Imam Ali Art Print
CONCEPT :
This piece was inspired by my dear friend who is a Shia Sheikh. This is one of his favorite Hadiths (sayings of the Prophet) of Imam Ali.
“People are of two types: either your brother in faith or your equal in humanity.”
My friend’s family is from Gujarat a North Western state in India, but for generations have settled in Kenya, Africa.
Many different cultures have come to the port state of Gujarat via the sea to trade, exchange ideas, forming a unique culture. I wanted to represent this concept in my artwork along with my friend’s family’s journey to Africa.
Two ships to represent different cultures, to represent the lines in the Hadith, both ships equal size facing each other to represent communication, dialogue, and interaction.
Ship drawing inspired by a 13th Century silver Gujarati figurine. Written in “Diwani” Script.
